CD REVIEWS, DEMO REVIEWS, CD REVIEWS, LP REVIEWS, 7" REVIEWS, DVD REVIEWS
In all honesty, this is a stupid page to even have, but I feel I need to say a few things.
First, thanks
for thinking about letting a madman like myself judge you and your product.
But the truth is I get a
bit of goodies in the mail and even then my time is limited, so I only have
reviews here for general reading entertainment.
The
most important thing is that I do not review music which I dislike.
If I play something and don't like anything about it, you'll know due to
the lack of a review.
Trust me, this is not so bad. It's saving you from a bad review. Right?
I'm a fan of music
and love to rave about what I like, but I also like to vent about shit I
dislike. Sometimes I'll review music I like while trashing the record label,
layout, philosophy or lyrics of a release. Positive reviews may contain
complaints, and sometimes I'll rag for an entire paragraph,
while still giving it a 'thumbs up'. Dig?
Your review will
be made mostly on the music (or content if a book), but you will possibly
get a few comments on the packaging and presentation. So if you send a CD-R
label sampler with 2 songs per band, no lyrics, no bio or info - I won't
write a word. Independent or self-released material sent in this manner
would be lucky if I write more than four sentences on the entire release,
which actually happens to be more lines than you'll get in most "full
time" webzines or fanzines anyhow. So please send the full package
(jewel cases are not necessary) and a little background information.
I prefer demos
(CD, CD-R, digital only or cassette) over other releases. Vinyl is always
sweet. This is, as Feast of Hate and Fear was, a somewhat underground
project, so I prefer to give exposure, my time and cyberspace to self-released,
or unsigned acts. Independent labels are welcomed, but in many cases (ie;
street-punk & ska) they are not necessarily wanted or even welcomed,
as my desk is quite cluttered and my mailbox is full enough.
Please
read below for favored styles and genres.
Feel free to send:
Hardcore, metalcore,
grind, thrash, death or black metal, doom, stoner rock, old school emocore,
screamo, indie-rock, shoegazer, rock-n-roll,
punk rock, dark wave, ambient, noise, power electronics, abstract, glitch,
freeform jazz, apocalyptic folk or spoken word.
Do not send:
Pop punk, street punk, ska punk, nümetal, nüemo or any mixing of these genres.
Lastly, if I write a review, and link your site - remember: people read my opinion. From there they either love the review (or hate it, laugh at it, take heed of the words written or outright disagree with the verbal vomit I emit), as it's ultimately their decision in giving you their attention. You shouldn't think that good reviews in magazines = sales (or vice-versa, bad review = no sales), or any other music industry equations around those lines. A review here simply means people who visit the review page will know you (or your product) exist, which is the most important aspect of a review: publicity. Most people will make up their own minds as to whether they would want to support your project, lifestyle, or artistic expression.
Thanks,
